“Lame excuse. You’re going.”
“All right.” She didn’t really mind. She needed some time away from his delicious body to focus on the Misters’ payback. Though she hadn’t worked out the specifics, her revenge would be so amazing that they would think twice before messing with her again. That would be enough to cure her stress, and she was certain she’d return to him in perfect health. Today, her long nightmare would end, and she and Joel would live happily ever after. She smiled at the thought. “I have some other things to do while I’m out anyway.”
“Oh, I don’t know. A little reimbursement for the bitches who are trying to ruin my life.”
Stepping back to the stove, Joel added five different seasonings to the pot before he regarded her again. “Don’t.”
The word jarred her. She tipped her head, unsure if she’d heard him correctly. “What did you say?”
“I said don’t. Please.”
Tara stared at him for a long minute. Heat rose into her cheeks. “Why don’t you ask me to change my skin color to yellow or purple while you’re at it?”
He grinned, a charming, boyish expression. “I know you can do that.”
“That’s not the point.” She spun on her heel and progressed two steps before her stomach rumbled painfully and she remembered what she was doing in the kitchen. The smell of gourmet pasta wafted through the air, creating a magical dreamland that she needed to enter. She needed to! Despite the topic at hand, she sat down at the table. “Maybe we should finish this discussion after dinner.”
Joel set her plate in front of her and sat down. “There’s nothing to discuss. You’re going to eat, go to the doctor, and then I’d like you to shop for the rest of the day.”
“Would you mind?” He pulled at the fabric on his shorts.
Tara picked up her fork and gathered a bite, letting her irritation die out. “Why didn’t you say that in the first place? For a minute I thought—”
“That I prefer white witches? I do.”
Tara coughed several times, nearly choking on her mouthful of pasta. The news hit her like a giant iron cauldron had fallen from the sky to crush her. Unable to meet his eyes, she dashed to the refrigerator and chugged a bottle of water, washing down the bile that rose in waves while her stomach tightened and stirred.
"Bad Blood is well-written with fast pacing and entertaining dialogue. ... The sex scenes are steamy and emotionally griping. I recommend this story for any reader who enjoys witches and vampires--especially together!"
